Shopping could be really enjoyable in Morocco, as it has a great deal of markets of different types, including luxury shops, big malls, and traditional Souks. The latter could offer you the best shopping experience in the country. The Souks are situated in the old town of the city and display local handicraft, traditional clothes, as well as food.
Clothing
The characteristics of clothes in the Morocco are made against external effects, including wind blows and high temperature. However, it depends also on gender. Among these comes the "blue Jellaba” forth, a common dress for men of the Sahara desert. It is a long dress, with loose sleeves and trousers and golden embroidery. Turban is a typical piece of cloth for the Sahara men and is usually associated with Jellaba. It is found in colours and worn in different styles. Slippers are a local trade mark as well, used by men and women. However, a black cloth with colourful and bright embroidery, in addition to other dresses of different colors, are commonly used by Berber women, ensuring the conservative aspect of them.
Carpets
The desert carpet is one of Morocco's most fascinating carpets. It has its own style and colour. Carpets in Merzouga are made using a traditional loom ("Astta" in Amazigh). Variant in size and in wool, these are used for decoration as well as furniture.
Jewelry
Jewelry is mostly made and used by women of the region. Either made of gold, silver or bronze, pieces of jewelry are worn particularly on special occasions, like wedding ceremonies. This is sometimes considered more of an Amazigh tradition than a mere aesthetic aspect.
