In each region you visit in Morocco, you can taste a new meal. Marrakech has also its flavour, embodied in the Marrakshi’s Tangia. The latter is a mixture of vegetables and meat simmered on hot ashes. Couscous and Tagine remain a Moroccan symbol in all restaurants. Desserts and salads are basically of fresh fruits and vegetables, and are served as starters or within the main dish. You are expected to meet spicy meals, including salt, paprika and saffron.
What to eat in Morocco?
Almost all restaurants and snacks in Morocco offer local, and also international dishes to their guests. Among the Moroccan flavour is Couscous and Tagine
Couscous is based on semolina grains, usually with lamb or chicken, as well as vegetables or eggs. It is a tradition to prepare Couscous for lunch every Friday.
Tagine take the name of the clay container in which it is prepared and cooked. It is basically a spicy stew of meat or fish and vegetables.
Tangia is a typical dish in Marrakech, being prepared as tagine, but is cooked very slowly in a special container.
You are vegetarian? that should be no problem at all. You can still taste Moroccan food, just ask for a vegetarian Tagine or any other meal. Waiters are always there to serve your needs and give you suggestions of vegetarian dishes.
What to drink in Morocco?
Beverage is available in several points of Marrakech. Among which are outdoor cafes overlooking the Jemaa el Fna. Including Hotel de France, and the terrace of Cafe Glacier.
You might choose to sit in the terrace of the above-mentioned restaurants and order your favourite drink: selection of fruits juice, soda drinks and many others at your disposal. Yet, mint tea is recommended if you are looking forward to a Moroccan taste.
Alcoholic drinks are advisable to be purchased in bars and pubs. Because it looks disrespectful, and ethically inappropriate to order them in public restaurants. Therefore, the best way is to purchase your drinks and have it in private places.
