The international airport of Fes is situated in the city of Fes and serves the region of Fes-Meknes. With 900 000 passengers in the years 2016, it is Morocco’s fourth busiest airport. The number, however, exceeded one million in 2017 thanks to the construction of terminal 2. The airport derives its name from a neighboring hill called “Sais”. The construction of the airport began in 1960, but it was not until 2001 that terminal 1 was given a start with an annual capacity of 500 000 passengers. Terminal 2 can host up to two and half million travelers per year, stretching over an area of 26 000m². The terminal, being a 2017 structure, is supplied with the newest technology and provides enough space to successfully handle the movement of passengers within the airport. The large glassy windows letting in natural light, and the geometric forms highlighting authentic Moroccan architecture, bring about an interesting atmosphere for travelers.
Several airline companies operate at the airport with flights towards and from different destinations, including London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Marrakesh, Brussels, Lisbon, etc. The airport is 13km away from the city center. You can move between the airport and the bus and train stations by bus number 16 in a period of around 40 minutes.
